From the President Mr Andrew Smith
It is a great pleasure to be hosting the 47th annual meeting of the Pancreatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland at the Leeds Hilton hotel between the 30th November and the 2nd December. This is the first standalone meeting of the Society since 2019 and this years meeting has a diverse and inclusive programme. We have attracted an outstanding faculty with representation from virtually all the pancreatic units in the UK and Ireland.
Meetings focusing on the specific interests of dieticians and nurses, organised by Oonagh Griffin and Lynne MacCallum, will be taking place in parallel, planned so that all the groups can come together to take part in the main meeting to present and participate as audience members. Financial support for our AHPs is available, further details will be announced on the website.
On Wednesday 30th we welcome the UKI EUS Society who have a very exciting programme covering current EUS controversies and as ever includes live endoscopy. In parallel on the 30th, for the first time, the PSGBI together with the Roux group have organised a surgical training day ‘dissecting the pancreas’. The day covers pre-operative work up, intra-operative considerations, approaches to post operative complications and ends with a MDT. Interest in this educational event is high and places are limited – so please book early to avoid disappointment!
We also invite you to submit abstracts for both oral and poster sessions. Selected abstracts will be chosen for oral presentations for the prestigious Lord Smith medal. With an eye on the environment, this is the first PSGBI to be paperless with a PSGBI meeting app and digital poster boards.
The excellent venue provides ample opportunity for socialising, meeting old colleagues and making new friends. We wish to welcome you to the vibrant city of Leeds, where we are sure you will have a great time in and out of the conference hall.
Andy Smith
